The Christmas season is finally here, bringing with it the glow of warm lights, sparkling decorations, and the joyful anticipation of Santa Claus. It’s the time of year when homes feel cozier, traditions feel sweeter, and hearts feel a little lighter. It is also the time of dusting off your favorite reads, sharing them with your little ones or just sitting back and enjoying them yourself, releasing your inner child.
Here are two of my favorites – The Night Before Christmas and Dr. Seuss How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
The Night Before Christmas, a poem first published under the title “Account of a Visit from St. Nicholas” in 1823, is a beloved holiday classic that captures the magic and anticipation of Christmas Eve. Written in rhythmic, cheerful verse, the story follows a father who is awakened by a clatter and discovers St. Nicholas arriving with his sleigh and reindeer. Through vivid imagery and warm, festive charm, the book brings to life the wonder of Santa’s visit, making it a timeless read that families return to year after year.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a heartwarming Dr. Seuss classic that tells the story of the Grinch, a grouchy creature determined to ruin Christmas for the joyful Whos in Whoville. After stealing every gift, decoration, and treat, he’s shocked to hear the Whos still singing with happiness on Christmas morning. Realizing that Christmas is about more than presents, the Grinch’s heart grows, and he returns everything he took. The tale beautifully reminds readers that the true spirit of Christmas comes from love, togetherness, and kindness.
Once you crack open the first page of each of these books, be prepared to be transported into two wonderful and different, magical worlds. All centered around the warmth and joy of Christmas.
